Design Philosophy

Rogers Architects & Planners works with clients to translate their requirements and ideas into a cost-effective, pleasing reality.

We don’t pursue one particular architectural style – instead, our aim is to be versatile and knowledgeable about the many styles available so that we can design something that suits the individual needs and tastes of the client and responds to their brief in an effective and innovative manner.

Our service does not stop at the design process – it includes the engagement of building and other consultants to ensure the translation of the design into a practical and pleasing built form.


Company Profile

Rob Rogers set up his own architectural practice in 1983, based in the eastern suburbs and providing architectural design and drafting services in residential, commercial and industrial architectural design. In 2000 Rob became a corporate member of the Planning Institute of Australia, adding town planning to the services provided.

The company moved to its present offices in Mont Albert in 2004 and Rob works with a small but dedicated team to service clients in the city and surrounding suburbs, country Victoria and further afield in other states.

Principal Architect

Rob Rogers qualified with a Diploma of Architecture from RMIT and a Bachelor of Architecture from Melbourne University in 1972, after which he undertook 2 year’s post graduate study for a Bachelor of Building.

Rob ran his own design and drafting company before setting up Davidson, Chlebnikowski & Rogers Pty Ltd, a partnership with two other architects, in 1977. The company handled a variety of design work including a number of TAFE colleges and ski-field developments.

In 1983, Rob left the partnership to set up a sole practice, specialising in planning and designing multi-unit residential developments and project home design, as well as continuing to provide residential design services for new homes and renovations.

Rob employs a small drafting and administrative staff.
 

Environmental Sustainability

Rogers Architects has been aware of the principles of environmental design since the 1970’s and has incorporated those principles into the design of homes and other buildings, particularly in country, alpine and coastal areas.

As clients become more aware of energy-conscious design and the cost of building components such as double-glazing, solar systems, sunscreens etc, decreases, it becomes easier to apply such principles to the design process.
 

Fees

Rogers Architects provides architectural and drafting services on either a percentage or a time rate fee basis, tailored to the client’s requirements.

There is no charge for the initial one-hour briefing meeting, which preferably takes place on site, and allows the client to outline their project and expectations and enables us to formulate a realistic budget. Once fees are agreed, they are payable as stage payments as each stage of the work is completed.

Stages of the work are:

  • Initial Briefing
  • Concept Design and Building Costing
  • Preliminary Design Work
  • Design Development
  • Working Drawings for Building Permits & Tendering
  • Contract Administration (including calling and analysing tenders and construction site visits)

Rogers Architects are qualified in project cost control, to ensure that projects are completed within a reasonable budget.
